Expungements / Pardons

South Carolina Expungements Lawyer

Experienced legal advice on the clearing of criminal records through expungement or pardon

We are the experts in the expungement process. In South Carolina, all arrests that do not result in convictions and certain convictions, can be expunged from your record. An expungement occurs when we obtain a court order that results in the destruction of your arrest records, (including mugshots, fingerprints, videotapes, etc.), and the removal of your arrest record from your “rap” sheet.

Recent legislation permits the expungement, after five years, of certain General Sessions convictions that occurred before the Defendant's twenty-fifth birthday, provided that the Defendant has no other record.

If you apply for a job, a loan or a professional license, you will almost certainly undergo a criminal background check that could reveal a felony or misdemeanor conviction in your past. That conviction could result in lost employment opportunities and financial hardship for your family, all because of an indiscretion that occurred years or even decades ago.

For almost twenty years, Columbia criminal defense attorney A. Randolph “Randy” Hough has helped South Carolina residents to erase an arrest or criminal conviction from their records through the “expungement” process. When successful, this will completely clear arrests and convictions from state and federal records, including the FBI.

In those cases where expungements are not available, a pardon may be the best solution. If you are pardoned, your rights will be fully restored. We will assist you in applying for your pardon and will forcefully advocate your case before the Pardon Board. In many cases, an appeal before the Pardon Board can result in a restoration of rights, including the right to possess a firearm and your driver’s license. At the Law Office of A. Randolph Hough, we can evaluate your situation to determine the best way clear your record, including:

  • Expungement of felony or misdemeanor convictions
  • Expungement of arrest records
  • Certificates of Pardon
